Portland Trail Blazers star Deandre Ayton experienced an unexpected setback on Wednesday due to severe winter weather, which hindered his ability to reach the Moda Center for a game against the Nets. Despite recovering from right knee tendinitis and aiming to return to the court after missing 11 games, Ayton faced challenges navigating the icy conditions caused by a recent ice storm in the Portland region.

Blazers coach Chauncey Billups revealed Ayton's efforts to overcome the icy conditions, including assistance from the team, proved unsuccessful. The Trail Blazers, with a season record of 10-29, had a 3-8 record in Ayton's absence. Ayton's last game was on December 23 against the Warriors, and he was set to make his return against the Nets.

Deandre Ayton, acquired in a trade with the Suns last season, boasts an average of 13.1 points and 10.8 rebounds with a shooting percentage of 54.8%. While the icy weather disrupted the game schedule, Ayton is expected to return to the court on Friday when the Trail Blazers face Indiana. The Pacific Northwest, including Portland, has been affected by challenging winter conditions, leading to dangerous road conditions and power outages for thousands of residents. More freezing rain is anticipated in the area on Thursday.
