In 2021, Issa Rae called out the music industry for being “abusive” to artists, citing the record deals and contracts she encountered while working on shows like her ‘Insecure’ series.
From there, the writer and actor developed a show on MAX called ‘Rap Sh!t’ that focused on two friends who came together to form a rap group, with the show displaying their struggles within the music industry. The show aired for two seasons before news surfaced noting it wouldn’t be renewed for a third season.
Now, Issa Rae has reacted to the news. While speaking to Variety, Issa Rae said, “I’m so proud of and grateful for Syreeta, our cast, writers, and crew that made this show possible. Thanks to Sarah Aubrey and Suzanna Makkos for championing the show, and much love to the fans that tuned in weekly to root for our girls.”
MAX also canceled other shows that were met with great reception from fans, like ‘Julia’ and ‘Our Flag Means Death.’
