Brown's unexpected departure came as a shock to many, including Tom Brady, who had brought Brown to Tampa Bay. Mendenhall drew parallels to ex-Buffalo Bills cornerback Vontae Davis, who infamously retired at halftime during a game. Reflecting on the incident, Mendenhall said Davis felt he was taking his power back by deciding exactly when he was done playing football, suggesting Brown might have had a similar experience. It was also suggested that this controversy has effectively ended Brown's career as doubts are cast on any teams being interested in him nowadays.
