Update 01/22/2024 1:56pm:

Jury selection for the long-awaited murder trial of Jam Master Jay began on Monday, January 22nd, in New York, over three years after the alleged killers were indicted. Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington were charged in 2020 with murder while engaged in narcotics trafficking and firearm-related murder for the 2002 slaying of the renowned DJ and Run-DMC member.

Jordan was arrested that same year when he allegedly attempted to sell drugs to an undercover officer. Washington was already in federal custody on a robbery conviction when he was indicted for Jam Master Jay's murder. Both Jordan and Washington have pleaded not guilty. In 2023, a third man, Jay Bryant, was also charged for his alleged role in the murder after prosecutors claimed he was with Jordan and Washington that night, and his DNA was found at the crime scene. Bryant will be tried separately at a later date.

Opening statements for Jordan and Washington are scheduled to start on January 29th. The two defendants face life in prison but not the death penalty if convicted.
