This led the discussion to the controversial topic of Black male comedians feeling pressured to wear a dress in films for comedic effect. Many claim that this is a form of emasculation, and there are numerous instances of Black comedians refusing to participate in such scenes. However, Michael Jai White argues that comedy knows no color and the supposed stigma around Black comedians wearing dresses should be nonexistent.
