Part 1: Robert Ladd on Joining Compton PD Gang Unit, 55 Gangs in 10 Square Mile Compton

--------

Robert Ladd, a former Compton police officer, recently provided a harrowing account of what he called "10 days of hell" following the murder of Tupac Shakur in 1996. According to Ladd, he and his fellow officers were warning a major gang war was about to be waged in Compton, as they had anticipated revenge retaliation for the shooting of the famed rapper. Indeed, just two days following Tupac's murder, a shooting involving a main player of the Southside Crips, Darnell Brim, took place, which was just the beginning of a violent spree killing three people and wounding 11 in attempted murders. Despite having dealt with numerous gang wars before, Ladd emphasized the intensity of this particular conflict due to its high-profile nature, linking it with Tupac.
