Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis recently acknowledged having a personal connection with an external prosecutor she selected to handle the election interference case involving former president Donald Trump and his allies. However, she firmly refuted any allegations that this relationship negatively impacted the proceedings.

In a comprehensive court filing that was 176 pages, Willis dismissed the claims against her as baseless and sensational. She urged the judge to dismiss the motions filed by Trump and the other co-defendants seeking her disqualification and that of her office from the case without the need for an evidentiary hearing.

Willis denied any wrongdoing and emphasized that there was no evidence to suggest that her relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade had influenced the case in any way. Wade refuted any claims suggesting his involvement had resulted in financial gains for Willis. Mike Roman, a co-defendant with Trump who initially made allegations of misconduct, accused Wade of funding extravagant vacations with Willis. In his sworn statement, Wade clarified that both he and Willis had evenly divided the expenses for their travels.

The court filing also included an affidavit from Wade, who said there was no personal connection between him and Willis before his appointment. However, Wade's affidavit acknowledged that in 2022, a personal relationship had developed alongside their professional association and friendship.
