According to reports, TSA has been trying a new self-service security checkpoint at the Las Vegas airport. With sensors all over the self-service screening lane, travelers can navigate the process without ever interacting with a TSA agent.
ABC's Gio Benitez was among the first travelers to try this new system. As he approached the self-service screening lane, he noticed the sensors and glass scanners that guided him through the process. With the help of a virtual assistant on the screen, Gio could quickly and efficiently pass through security.
While this new system may take some getting used to and initially slow travelers down, Christina Peach, who runs the program, emphasizes the importance of testing and feedback in order to improve the process.
Despite concerns about potentially cutting down on TSA officers, Christina assures travelers that there will always be officers present at the airport. The goal of the self-service security checkpoint is to reallocate officers to busier aspects of the screening process, ultimately making security more efficient for everyone. One interesting feature of this new system is the ability to track any items left behind in the trays. This added convenience ensures that travelers can easily retrieve any forgotten items before continuing on their journey.
