Part 1: Joey Merlino, Rumored Boss of Philly Mafia, Says He Doesn't Know Anything About the Mafia

--------

In this clip, Joey Merlino dismissed parallels drawn in the media of him being the Philadelphia counterpart of mafia boss John Gotti. He attributes the comparisons instead to his propensity for fine clothes and luxury cars. Merlino rejects any assumptions of criminality based on image alone, insisting he is simply exercising his right to enjoy the finer things in life. Despite the scrutiny, he maintains he is staying out of trouble, golfing, podcasting and being the "voice for the good people." Reflecting on his past 14-year sentence, he recounted being sent to Beaumont, Texas and then shuffled through conditions he likens to a terrorist unit. He detailed the challenges of fighting these charges. Despite being in the spotlight and often likened to notorious figures, Merlino reinforced his focus on lifestyle rather than criminal undertakings.
