Mary J. Blige was recently nominated for the 2024 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The artist was nominated among others like Lenny Kravitz, Sade, Eric B. & Rakim, Mariah Carey, and more.
Ahead of that, Mary sat down with the Today Show to speak about her career and path, while also making a revelation. Mary was asked about her feelings for her music, with the singer noting she didn’t care for the sound of her voice in the beginning of her career.
“I do now, I didn’t used to. I didn’t like the sound of my voice,” said Mary. The singer then explained, “But now I listen to my music and now I love everything about me, I do. I used to hate everything about me. The sound of my voice, the sound of my speaking voice.”
Mary concluded by saying, “And I used to just be afraid to hear any music back. We grow up thinking we couldn’t boast or brag or love on ourselves, and now I’m doing all that.”
