French Montana revealed that a friend who had offered to take on his drug case, which could have got him deported, changed his mind in court. At that time, Montana was an illegal alien, and getting locked up could result in deportation. When apprehended with multiple pounds of weed, his friend offered to take the case to prevent Montana from being deported. In court, when faced with a possible 30-day sentence, the friend changed his mind. Montana then had to take on the case, receiving a one-off pass. After this incident, French Montana decided to pursue rap music. Starting from a friend's living room, he began by trying to make beats and eventually got involved with individuals pursuing similar interests.
