Journalist George Chidi has provided details about the ongoing RICO case centered around the YSL label, during which there have been issues regarding the lack of pay for defense lawyers, leading some to predict that the state will go bankrupt. One lawyer requested to be taken off the case due to payment issues; the case involves close to 30 defendants, each requiring separate representation. The YSL co-founder, YSL Mondo, although found with guns and drugs, was not charged, and his implication in the case has been disputed. Another defendant, already convicted of murder, had his charges dropped in the case as his involvement was deemed a waste of time. The case experienced the longest jury selection period in Georgia history, with over 2,000 potential jurors, due to the length of the trial (6 months to a year) deterring most working residents.
