Journalist George Chidi recounted his experience getting attacked during the 2020 protests in Atlanta. Chidi went to investigate reports of men with guns preventing White people from driving by the burned-down Wendy's downtown where Rayshard Brooks was killed. Despite being Black, Chidi was attacked by these men who demanded his camera and assaulted him when he refused. Chidi, a former military journalist, managed to retreat into a gas station's light and escape the scene. Having captured the impact of the attack in a photo that went viral, Chidi has since stopped going out alone but continues to act on his belief that a journalist's job is to personally witness and report on events. While he acknowledges the possibility of danger, he brushed off concerns about threats against his life, instead focusing on the risks faced by those living in violent conditions.
