DJ Akademiks discussed J. Cole recently quoting Jay-Z, implying that Kendrick Lamar hasn't produced a discography of multiple classic albums. Unpacking J Cole's use of these lyrics, Akademiks and Vlad argued that J. Cole might be tied to Jay-Z through their Roc Nation affiliation, yet he also somewhat ironically referenced Jay-Z's losing song, "Takeover." Akademiks defended Kendrick Lamar by listing his popular albums "Good Kid, M.A.A.D City," "To Pimp a Butterfly," and "Damn," observing that Kendrick has produced a classic album every 3 or 4 years. As such, he challenged the veracity of J. Cole's lyrics and declared, "That’s not a diss." He ended by jokingly questioning who was advising J Cole's lyrical choices.
