Yelawolf opened up about a mental breakdown he suffered, leading to his confinement in a psych ward. The breakdown followed an unsuccessful Trial by Fire tour, where he repeatedly battled alcoholism, leading to disputes and band discontinuity. After experiencing increasing agitations and manic tendencies – spurred by further substance misuse and disregarding his bipolar nature - he was admitted to the psych ward. Yelawolf described these experiences as scary for him and those close to him, and he credited his recovery to time spent in rehab. The journey led to his understanding of the needs of his mental health and a drive to rebuild the connections he lost due to his breakdown.
