Ms. Pat opened up about her journey into comedy. Initially encouraged by her caseworker's belief in her humor, Ms. Pat embarked on her comedy career in Atlanta, performing at open mics. Despite her nerves, she honed her storytelling skills and faced hecklers, gaining confidence and resilience. Her journey took a tougher turn when she relocated to Indianapolis, where the predominantly White comedy scene presented new challenges. The owner of a local establishment, went as far as calling her a 'hoodrat' and 'ghetto,' insisting that his 7 PM crowd wouldn’t appreciate her humor. Determined to succeed, Ms. Pat endured his disparaging remarks and pushed forward, needing the stage time to build her career. Reflecting on this period, Ms. Pat highlighted her perseverance, showcasing a commitment to her craft that eventually earned her the recognition she deserves.
