Dwight "Doc" Gooden revisited his tumultuous journey from despising the Yankees to finding solace and success within the team. He signed with the Yankees in 1996, despite his initial aversion, and felt out of place until being reunited with former Mets teammate Darryl Strawberry. Gooden likened Strawberry to a security blanket that brought much-needed comfort during challenging times. Gooden recounted the rollercoaster season that saw him almost released, only to secure his place after a teammate's injury. Highlighting the emotional significance of pitching a no-hitter against the Mariners, he revealed it was a tribute to his ailing father, who was undergoing heart surgery. By the end of his career, Gooden reflected on his 2000 Yankees stint. Having bounced between teams, his ultimate triumph came when he helped the Yankees clinch the World Series, beating his former team, the Mets. This victory carried special meaning, offering a satisfying sense of closure given his past with the Mets. Despite his Yankee success, Gooden emphasized that he would always consider himself a Met first.
