Part 2: Victor Ortiz on Boxing Coach Ron Lyle Losing to Ali, Told Victor: I Can't Stand that MF'er!
--------
Former welterweight champion Victor Ortiz recently sat down with VladTV to discuss his tumultuous upbringing and rise to fame. Ortiz revealed that he was one of 23 children fathered by his dad, making him the fifth son named Victor. Despite the familial bond indicated by their shared name, Ortiz shared that he barely knew his half-siblings due to their separate lives.
Ortiz’s childhood in Kansas was marked by instability. He recounted his mom leaving the family without warning when he was just seven. This abandonment, followed by his father’s departure five years later, led Ortiz and his siblings into the foster care system. This period of his life was challenging, particularly as he watched his sister Carmen struggle, echoing their mother's harsh predictions.
Ortiz was introduced to boxing after a violent incident at school and found solace in it. This mentorship was pivotal, turning his initial reluctance into a passion that fueled his rise in the boxing world. Boxing became a surrogate for the love and recognition Ortiz craved, helping him navigate the hardships of his early life.
