Victor Ortiz opened up about his tumultuous journey to becoming the WBC welterweight champion in 2011, a title he clinched by defeating Andre Berto. Ortiz recalled his dire financial state and immense pressure from his promoters, including Oscar De La Hoya, who denied him a rematch with Marcos Maidana. Ortiz worked tirelessly, juggling college and taking care of his brother while training for the Berto fight. Despite the odds stacked against him and being mockingly referred to as a "tomato can" by Lou Duva, Ortiz remained undeterred. His perseverance paid off when he defeated Berto in a match that was later named Fight of the Year.
