Part 2: Hector Bravo on Serving in the Iraq War: I Feel Sorrow for What We Did to Those People
--------
Hector Bravo, a former prison correctional officer, recently opened up about his experiences and his father's impactful career as a C.O., breaking the blue wall of silence. Growing up in Brawley, California, Bravo managed to stay out of trouble thanks to his strict upbringing. Years later, his father became a correctional officer during the prison boom in the 1990s.
Bravo recounts a tense moment when his family was approached by an inmate his dad shot during a prison altercation. While on a family trip in Oakland, a former inmate recognized his father and surprisingly expressed no hard feelings. Bravo explains that his father's professional demeanor mitigated potential confrontations. Hector's own career also saw run-ins with former inmates he supervised, maintaining a respectful dynamic.
