Former correctional officer Hector Bravo shed light on the dire situation within California’s prison system. With a chilling revelation, Bravo stated, “We’re averaging almost a murder a day in the California Public Corrections.” He recounted the shift in prison policies over the years, which, according to him, have led to an alarming increase in violence. Bravo shared that earlier policies focused on strict rules and law enforcement within the facilities, targeting contraband and illicit activities. However, newer guidelines encourage officers to befriend inmates, aiming to rehabilitate rather than reprimand. "That didn't work," Bravo asserted, highlighting the rise in staff assaults and inmate violence.
