Hector Bravo, a former correctional officer with 16 years of service, disclosed a violent episode involving the Mexican Mafia. According to Bravo, an overfamiliar relationship between a captain and a Mexican Mafia member led to multiple correctional officers being stabbed. The incident nearly resulted in the death of a peace officer, provoking a crisis response from Bravo, who was serving as both a crisis response team commander and a public information officer at the time. Bravo reported that the incident was subsequently covered up by the facility's warden. The whistle was blown by an associate warden who sent an email statewide, only to retire immediately after. The attempt to downplay the incident revealed systemic corruption reaching Sacramento. Disturbed by the cover-up and its implications, Bravo chose to retire, prioritizing his family's well-being over his career.
