Johnny Mitchell discussed the marijuana boom of the 2000s, comparing it to the crack epidemic of the 1980s. Growing up in a middle-class family in Portland, Oregon, Mitchell was exposed to role models within the local weed scene. Inspired by friends and relatives who were making a living through small-scale weed sales, Mitchell began his journey into the illegal drug trade at 16, selling dime bags in high school before attending the University of Oregon. It was there that his operation expanded as he connected with growers in southern Oregon, gaining access to larger quantities at better prices and distributing them to street dealers. Mitchell also briefly ventured into cocaine, recounting a risky trip to San Diego to purchase a kilogram. Reflecting on past choices, the former dealer acknowledges the lessons learned from the trade, including the potential legal repercussions and dangers involved, ultimately concluding that the experience proved invaluable in shaping his future endeavors.
