These so-called gladiator wars involve prison guards intentionally placing rival gang members and inmates with conflicting affiliations in the same cell to provoke violence. Hector Bravo, a former California prison guard, confirmed these accusations, stating that he witnessed these practices firsthand, leading to his resignation. Bravo described how mixing sensitive needs inmates, such as known informants or ex-gang members, with the general population, exacerbates tensions and leads to brutality. 1090 Jake further corroborated these claims, sharing personal accounts from his time in Florida prisons, where guards’ indifference and misconduct often placed inmates’ lives in jeopardy.
