Comedian DL Hughley recently shared a candid account of his 1990s arrest for bringing a gun to JFK Airport. While en route to perform in Scarsdale, New York, Hughley inadvertently left a pistol in his bag, leading to an arrest following a metal detector alert. The incident occurred before 9/11 heightened airport security protocols, yet it still resulted in Hughley being held in central booking. Hughley humorously recounted his time in holding alongside New York Knicks' Anthony Mason, even generously buying pizzas for fellow detainees.

Faced with a potential serious charge—carrying a gun with a bullet for each part of its capacity—Hughley enlisted NYC lawyer Murray Richmond. Richmond, known for defending high-profile clients like DMX and Jay-Z, assured Hughley that with a $30,000 fee, jail time would be avoided. True to his word, Richmond swiftly resolved the case, with the judge ultimately apologizing to Hughley. The comedian emphasized the importance of effective legal representation, humorously noting Richmond's promise that "only broke folks go to jail."
