Rico 2 Smoove recently opened up about his tumultuous path and incarceration experiences during a candid interview. At the young age of 17, Rico was sentenced to five years in the California Youth Authority for a variety of offenses, including car theft and robbery, compounded by gang-related charges. Reflecting on his teenage years, he admitted to a reckless lifestyle and a lack of guidance, which led to numerous arrests and ultimately, serious time behind bars.
Despite the grave reality of being sentenced to five years, Rico revealed a rather detached mindset at the time, attributing it to his prior exposure to the system and the tough persona he maintained. His time in juvenile detention centers had already hardened his outlook, and he considered the youth authority as just another chapter in his life.
The interview also touched upon a leaked video of Rico fighting an adult while in the youth facility, shedding light on the violent and challenging environment he endured. Today, Rico 2 Smoove speaks with a sense of reflection and understanding of the systemic issues within youth incarceration.
