Former Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan spoke out after nearly 70 people, including a contingency of U.S. ice skaters who just wrapped up a competition in Wichita, were killed after a plane and helicopter crashed in DC.
Speaking at a press conference live from the Skating Club of Boston, where some of the skaters in the crash trained, Kerrigan broke down over the tragedy. She tearfully stated, "Much like everyone here has been saying, I’m not sure how to process it. I didn’t feel like it was right to be home and do interviews for this. . . . We just wanted to be here and be a part of our community."
Kerrigan added, "We’ve been through tragedies before as Americans, as people, and we are strong. I guess it’s how we respond to it, and my response is to be with people I care about and love, and I needed support."
Nancy went on to speak about personally knowing some of the people who were killed in the crash, and she added, "We just wish them well and the families the courage and the strength to make the next steps. I don't know how you look at people who go through tragedies, and you wonder how they do it. I don't know, but we're so strong."
