Lou Diamond Phillips discusses the intense backlash Edward James Olmos faced from the Mexican Mafia following his 1992 film "American Me." The film, which Olmos starred in and directed, depicted controversial scenes involving the Mexican Mafia leader in prison. DJ Vlad mentions a previous conversation with actor Danny Trejo, who confirmed that the movie offended many gang members. Trejo recounted a meeting with Olmos, warning against the potential repercussions, which Olmos attributed to artistic expression. The portrayal in the film led to significant fallout, with Trejo asserting that ten people associated with the film were killed, and there was even a hit on Olmos's life. Consequently, Olmos had to carry a gun for his protection.
