Legendary actor Gene Hackman, his wife, and their dog were found dead in their Santa Fe home, authorities confirmed on Thursday (February 27).
Authorities stated that the cause of death is yet to be determined, as the investigation remains ongoing. Hackman, 95, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 63, were discovered alongside their dog during a welfare check conducted around 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Hackman was one of Hollywood's most beloved actors, renowned for his roles in classic films such as The French Connection, The Conversation, Hoosiers, Enemy of the State, and The Royal Tenenbaums. His career spanned over five decades, earning him two Academy Awards and widespread acclaim for his versatile performances.
Hackman met Arakawa, a classically trained pianist from Hawaii, in the mid-1980s while she was working part-time at a California gym. The couple soon moved in together and eventually settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where they resided until their deaths.
Hackman had three children from a previous marriage, while he and Arakawa did not have children together. The couple maintained a private life, enjoying their years away from the spotlight in their tranquil Santa Fe home.
Further details surrounding their deaths are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
