Playboi Carti dropped his highly anticipated album, I Am Music, on Friday (March 14), featuring collaborations with Travis Scott, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, and more. One of the most talked-about tracks is "Good Credit," which features Kendrick Lamar and has sparked speculation that Kendrick took subliminal shots at Drake.
While fans have praised the track, Kanye West—who contributed production to the song "Backdoor" on the album—made it clear that he wasn’t impressed with Kendrick’s inclusion. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ye bluntly shared his opinion:
"I DON’T LIKE KENDRICK LAMAR’S MUSIC. HE RAPS VERY GOOD BUT I DIDN’T NEED TO HEAR HIM ON CARTI ALBUM."
The statement caught fans off guard, as Ye has previously acknowledged Kendrick’s lyrical prowess. In a past conversation with Justin LaBoy, Ye even warned about going up against Kendrick in a rap battle, saying:
"If you rap against Kendrick, you will lose. This man does this. You know, in Street Fighter, you get Chun-Li, you get a certain kick, and no matter what, you can’t beat that thing?"
However, he also left room for debate, adding, "If you rap against Kendrick Lamar, it’s a difficult task, but perhaps it’s something … I’m a psycho genius, so you know, it could be."
With tensions already brewing between Drake and Kendrick, Ye’s comments add another layer to the ongoing rap discourse. Whether or not Kendrick responds remains to be seen.
