Part 2: Frank Gioia Jr. on Getting a Triad Connection for His Heroin Operation During His Teens
--------
Frank Gioia Jr., a former made man with the Lucchese Mafia, recently shared insights into his intriguing familial connections. Growing up in New York City's Little Italy during the 70s and 80s, Gioia describes the neighborhood as a tight-knit, predominantly Italian-American and Roman Catholic community where everyone looked out for one another. His father was a made man in the Lucchese crime family, a fact he became aware of during his teenage years.
Gioia's connections to organized crime extended beyond his father. His great-grandfather on his mother's side was affiliated with the Genovese crime family. Discussing his family's notorious ties, he highlighted a particularly close relationship with Vincent "Chin" Gigante, the then-boss of the Genovese family. Gigante, who married Gioia's father's cousin and was affectionately called "uncle" by Gioia, was infamous for his eccentric behavior, including parading around Manhattan in a bathrobe to feign insanity. Despite the notorious reputation, Gioia emphasized that his own experiences of Gigante were different from media portrayals.
