DJ Yella shared insights about the iconic group's controversial performance in Detroit, which involved their notorious song "F*** tha Police." While the film portrays a dramatic riot following their performance, the actual event was less intense. The police did intervene, issuing $150 tickets and asking for autographs instead of making arrests. This infamous performance, the only time they ever played the song live, led to the group being kicked off stage without payment. Despite having signed a contract to refrain from performing the track, they decided to defy it midway through their tour.
Discussing their success, DJ Yella recalled that during their "Straight Outta Compton" era, their album peaked at number 37 on the Billboard charts despite no radio play or MTV exposure. Their subsequent album debuted at number two but quickly climbed to number one, marking a milestone for hip-hop. Despite this success, promotional tours were minimal due to the group's disbandment at the time.
