Ne-Yo is getting candid about the dynamics of his unconventional love life, including the ground rules he’s set with his four girlfriends.

During a recent interview with Angie Martinez, the R&B singer addressed one of the most frequently asked questions about his polyamorous relationship: whether his partners are allowed to date other people.

“The question I get the most is, ‘Are they allowed to date outside of me?’ I get it all the damn time,” Ne-Yo said. “And I’m going to answer it right now: No… no, they are not.”

He went on to clarify that exclusivity wasn’t something he demanded—it was something they offered.

“They came to me and said, ‘I want to be exclusive to you and just you.’ I said, ‘You understand that your exclusivity to me does not mean my exclusivity to you? You okay with that?’ They said yes. So once that agreement was made, there were rules.”

Ne-Yo emphasized that while he's open to conversations, he still holds the final say in his relationships.

“I’m not delusional—I know I’m not the only person someone’s ever going to be attracted to. But in this household, I’m the head. What I say goes. So if I say no, it’s a no. And you just have to let that be a no—or the door is over there.”
