Serena Williams is clearing the air after her surprise appearance during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl performance earlier this year sparked rumors of a subtle jab at Drake.
The tennis legend went viral after appearing on stage and doing a Crip walk while Kendrick performed his chart-topping diss track “Not Like Us” — his diss aimed at Drake. Fans quickly speculated that Serena was picking a side in the ongoing rap feud, suggesting her dance was a diss directed at the Toronto rapper.
But in a new interview with Time magazine, Serena put those rumors to rest, firmly denying any ill intent toward Drake.
“I would never do that,” she said. “And that was sad — that anyone would ever think that. I respect how they could. Obviously, I can see how someone would think that.”
She continued, “I have never had negative feelings towards him. We’ve known him for so many years.”
Serena and Drake have a long history, having been romantically linked in the past and seen supporting one another publicly. So far, Drake hasn't responded.
