Tommy Davidson is celebrating big news: BET+ has officially greenlit a spinoff series based on his beloved Martin character, Varnell Hill.

The new show will follow Varnell’s journey as he tries to stay relevant in a rapidly changing entertainment industry. According to the official logline, the series will dive into the behind-the-scenes world of TV production — from corporate execs and creative teams to power struggles and ego clashes — all wrapped in a sharp blend of satire, humor, cutaway gags, and fourth-wall-breaking moments.

Martin Lawrence and Martin co-creator Bentley Kyle Evans are on board as executive producers, though it’s still unclear whether Lawrence will reprise his iconic role.

Davidson shared his excitement on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Did you miss me? Well, now you don’t have to! I’m excited and honored to be a part of such a creative project with the brilliant mind of Martin Lawrence, over 30 years in the making. Fans have requested it and now it’s coming to BET+!”

The original Martin sitcom remains one of the most influential comedy series of the ‘90s, and Davidson’s over-the-top TV host Varnell Hill was a standout. The upcoming spinoff is expected to give fans a nostalgic yet modern take on the character, blending old-school charm with new-school industry commentary.
