Spectacular Smith, singer from the R&B group Pretty Ricky and successful entrepreneur, has been cleared of battery charges stemming from a 2020 altercation involving a Disney employee.
Speaking outside the courthouse after the verdict, Smith addressed the situation with emotion: “They put me in jail. They tried to assassinate my character. But I stayed grounded in my faith, and the jury saw the truth.”
The incident took place at a Disney theme park, where Smith was visiting with his son. The Disney employee involved, Weland Bourne, had attempted to sue Smith for $5 million. However, the jury ruled in Smith’s favor, concluding that Bourne instigated the altercation by violating safety protocols and physically blocking Smith and his son, effectively detaining them without cause.
Eyewitnesses supported Smith’s account, stating that Bourne deliberately obstructed the pair’s path. Reports also revealed that Bourne had a prior history of conflicts with park guests, which factored into the jury’s decision. Ultimately, Bourne was found negligent for his role in the incident, clearing Smith of all charges.
