Big U, the high-profile community figure and music executive, is facing a sweeping federal RICO case accusing him of leading a violent criminal organization tied to the Rollin’ 60s Neighborhood Crips. As the legal battle intensifies, new details suggest he may be banking on political connections—including with former President Donald Trump—to escape prosecution.
According to U.S. Attorney Bilal A. Essayli, Big U allegedly made a bold claim while in custody, suggesting he could influence Trump to intervene on his behalf. The statement reportedly came during a private conversation where he expressed confidence in his ability to manipulate the former president—despite referring to him derisively as “the orange man.”
The indictment paints a damning picture, portraying Big U as the mastermind behind a sprawling criminal enterprise that prosecutors say used intimidation, violence, and manipulation to gain power. Federal authorities allege he used his reputation in both the streets and the entertainment industry to extort celebrities, athletes, and local businesses.
One of the most disturbing accusations involves the 2021 murder of aspiring rapper Rayshawn Williams. Prosecutors claim Big U ordered the killing in retaliation for a diss track and what he perceived as a lack of productivity in the studio.
In total, the charges against Big U include 15 counts of wire fraud, five counts of embezzlement, and additional offenses tied to interstate prostitution and Hobbs Act robbery. Federal officials also accuse him of misusing funds from an anti-gang nonprofit and submitting fraudulent applications for pandemic-era relief loans.
Even in custody, Essayli says Big U has continued trying to manipulate those around him, reportedly attempting to sway public opinion and obstruct justice.
“Even now, he’s using his celebrity contacts for personal gain,” said Essayli. “With everything on the line—including the community goodwill he deceptively cultivated—he still bragged that he was a killer. And according to prosecutors, he backed that up with action.”
If convicted, Big U faces a potential life sentence. Prosecutors are pushing for him to remain in custody without bail, citing concerns that he poses an ongoing threat to the public and may attempt to flee if given the opportunity.
A final ruling on his pre-trial detention has not yet been issued.
