Gilbert Arenas’ 18-year-old son, Alijah, was involved in a serious car accident early Thursday morning (April 24) in Los Angeles. The incident, which involved only the Tesla Cybertruck he was driving, left Alijah in a medically induced coma.

By Friday, however, ESPN reported that Alijah had regained consciousness. In a statement released by the Arenas family, they shared that he had "shown significant signs of progress within the last 24 hours" and that his first words upon waking were, “Did anyone get hurt?”

TMZ reports the crash occurred around 4:55 a.m. The circumstances leading up to the accident remain unclear, but the Cybertruck was the only vehicle involved. A bystander on the scene described the moment they realized someone was trapped inside the vehicle.

“I remember hearing banging on the car window, but I couldn’t see anything because the smoke was so thick,” the witness told ESPN. “That’s when I realized someone was inside. I tried to break the window, but it wouldn’t give. Then I saw one of the windows was cracked just enough, and we used everything we had to bend it and pull him out. The car was on fire. We just knew we had to get him out.”

In their statement, the Arenas family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support: “The family continues to ask for the public's prayers and support as their miracle baby fights his way back to a full recovery. They remain deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by his medical team and the overwhelming encouragement from the community.”
